Label TextThis is a Hemis, or Ripened Corn Kachina. Kachinas are often associated with different life-giving spirits such as rain, animals and plants. Corn is painted on the towering headdress and references to rain include the stepped outline of the headdress, symbolizing clouds, and the rainbow at the center. Kachina dolls with the identifying characteristics of the spirit beings are created for Pueblo children as well as for sale to tourists and collectors.
