Label TextRailroad travel was growing in popularity in the 19th century just as panoramas were becoming increasingly popular. The experience of viewing an ever-changing landscape while riding in a train was comparable to viewing a panorama. On the reverse of this painting, behind the woman sleeping on the shoulder of her male companion, is a pencil inscription, “Light,” which may have been a guide for backlighting the scene. On View
