Label TextThis basket is a fine example of Chitimacha basketmaking. The Chitimacha use river cane from the banks of the Mississippi River and natural dyes from black walnut husks and blood root plants to create the brown and burnt-red surfaces. Some basketmakers weave flowing, curvilinear lines in their work.
