Label TextPeter Jemison explained that he got inspiration for Parfleche for Matisse from the traditional parfleche bag. “The paper bag is the equivalent to the bags we use to make ou of fibers, leather and later on clothe. So the paper bag is merle another manifestation”. On one side is an image an Iroquois comb that was found during an archaeological dig at the Ganandagan Historic site. On the other a powwow dancer wearing a mans traditional dancers outfit. The end panels have abstracted imagery and relate to Henry Matisse, one of Jemison’s favorite artists.
