Label TextNelson was a native of California, born in Santa Clara on June 13, 1888. He came from an artistic family, his father, Jesse, was a carriage painter and his mother, Emilie Bruce Nelson, sang in the Court of Newels at the opening of the Panama-Pacific Inernational Exposition. He trained as a landscape painter. As a friend of the Cooper family he spent summers in Cooperstown. Around 1918 he became a member of the local artist community. He returned to California in the 1930's. His style is a colorful post-impressionist technique characteristic of early 20th century art.
