Label TextJudging from the expressive quality of the boys' faces and the skilled handling of the delicate lace shirts, collars and cuffs, the unidentified hand which produced this charming double portrait was probably an experienced one. The graceful pose is enhanced by the inclusion of the older boy's left hand wrapped around the elbow of his younger companion. Stylistic traits that may help to identify more portraits include soft, diffusely shaded facial features, fine hair, large eyes, rounded foreheads and sloping shoulders. Other details, such as the whip, cart and background landscape, are painted more economically and with less precision.
