Label TextGeorge Rufus Boynton, portrait painter, known as "the painter laureate of Army and Navy life," was born in Pleasant Grove Wisconsin at the age of 17 he came to New York and supported himself as a sketch artist, studying art at Cooper Union. He also studied at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League under Walter Shirlaw, C. Y. Turner and J. G. Brown.

Dixon Ryan Fox (1887 – 1945), depicted here, was an American educator, researcher and the president of Union College from 1934 – 1945.
