Label TextThis modest likeness of Dr. Nash sitting next to a writing table with quill pen in hand is executed with sensitivity and skill despite the awkwardly foreshortened arm draped over the chair. The patterned drapery at the left side of the picture adds decoration to this otherwise plain and monochromatic portrait. The artist captured a distinctive feature of this sitter when he drew the continuous line of eyebrow across the subject's forehead.
