Label TextRendered in watercolor without the use of pencil, this unidentified gentleman stands on a grassy knoll facing left with his body drawn in three-quarter view and his face in profile. Evans often represented men in this pose with the subject's weight on the left leg, the left arm bent and resting on the rounded hip and the right hand holding a beaver skin top hat. The pale blue of the gentleman's gloves and the pink in the striped lining of the hat were accent colors often employed by Evans. Other distinguishing characteristics include the slightly protruding upper lip, the subtle, complementary coloration of flesh tones and the well-defined facial features.Exhibition History“Three New England Watercolor Painters,” Arts Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL, November 16, 1974 – December 1974; St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis, MO, January-February 1975; Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Collection, Williamsburg, VA, March-May 1975; Currier Gallery of Art, Manchester, NH, June-August 1975.
