Label TextThis engraved shell gorget represents an "other-than human" person accoutered in elaborate ritual regalia. The bent forearm holds a circular object, perhaps a fan, from which drops a raccoon pelt, identified by its ringed tail and hind paws. The right hand holds a rattle, while a bird, perhaps a black vulture, is attached behind the right shoulder.
