Label TextThis finely carved ball-headed club was a traditional weapon used in hand-to-hand combat. Warriors sometimes incorporated images of guardian spirits on their clubs to evoke spiritual power for success in warfare. An otter looks towards enemies from the head of this club, directly over its striking ball, and is perhaps also symbolic of the long-tailed Underwater Panther, the spiritual guardian of the underworld.
