Label TextJoe David, a Nootka artist from Vancouver Island, carved this mask in the style of the Tlingit who live in southeastern Alaska. His exploration of the Tlingit aesthetic is fully realized in the subtle three-dimensional modeling. The influence of cross-Northwest Coast styles is becoming increasingly important in the work of contemporary artists.
