Label TextFeasts are central to hosting a potlatch and bowls such as this held food at these feasts. The bulges in the sides of this dish are particularly graceful and effective in conveying the idea of the bounty contained in the vessel. The saturation of oil has caused this bowl to turn a rich black color. This is a strong indicator of generations of use to acquire this amount of oil impregnation.Exhibition History"Treasures from the Thaw Collection," Wheelwright Museum of American Indian Art.
