Label TextEncircled by long strands of braided sweetgrass, this globe basket represents Mother Earth and signifies the important relationship between the earth and all that she sustains. Benedict’s technical control is remarkable, with the nearly perfect circular form made of sweetgrass and black ash splint. Contemporary artists such as Benedict explored and continue to explore the boundaries of traditional basketry arts which Haudenosaunee women have excelled in for centuries.Exhibition History"As They Saw It: Women Artists Then & Now," Springfield Museums, Michele and Donald D'Amour Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, MA, October 14, 2023 - January 14, 2024; Fenimore Art Museum, Cooperstown, NY, April 1, 2024 - September 2, 2024.
