Label TextA Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) mother could carry her baby with ease in a cradle such as this. The bow at the front protected the baby if the cradle fell over. A footboard at the bottom helped support the baby’s weight (the footboard is missing here). The Scottish thistles in a Grecian-style vase, heart motifs, and stars on this cradle reflect the artistic influences of the Iroquois, French, and English people living in Quebec and New York.Exhibition History"Art Des Indiens D'Amerique Du Nord Dans La Collection D'Eugene Thaw," Mona Bismarck Foundation, Paris, France, Somogy Editions D'Art, January 21, 2000 - March 18, 2000.
