Label TextMadame Jumel (1769-1865) was the widow of a wealthy New York City wine merchant. Their country manor house still stands in the Washington Heights section of New York City and is a public museum. Jumel's background is obscure and she was considered an adventuress. In 1833 she married Aaron Burr (she was his second wife). They were later divorced after much litigation.
