Label TextMadame Jumel (1769-1865) was the widow of a wealthy New York City wine merchant. Their country manor house still stands in the Washington Heights section of New York City and is a public museum. Jumel's background is obscure and she was considered an adventuress. In 1833 she married Aaron Burr (she was his second wife). They were later divorced after much litigation.On View
