Label TextJuliette Miles, like many women in her era, took up drawing in sketchbooks and diaries as a means of amusement. She began drawing and painting in 1830 and often depicted baskets of fruit, flowers, and the occasional portrait. This sweet portrait of a young woman could be a self-portrait of the artist, or perhaps a close friend or family member. Juliette included a forest background and fruit that exemplifies her still life skills. On View
