Label TextSeifert was a German-born artist who emigrated to Gotham, Wisconsin in 1867 and earned a living raising fruits, vegetables, and flowers. In the late 1870s he began to supplement his income by painting scenes of neighboring farms and homes in a precise, meticulous style. In many cases, Seifert helped plan tree plantings and gardens for the farms he painted. The unidentified owner of this farm was one of many southwestern Wisconsin farmers who, by the 1880s, had cleared their land and erected permanent buildings and were eager for images reflecting their accomplishments.
