Label TextThis amateur artist sought to convey the ferocity of an encounter with a wild bear--note the bared teeth of both bear and dog--despite obvious problems with relative scale. While this picture's source is not known, it probably derives from one of the numerous folk tales of farmers who, in the course of their daily chores, suddenly find themselves face-to-face with a bear and kill it with an ax or gun.
