Label TextArthur Amiotte is one of the most well-known Native American artists working today. In this collage of clippings from historic newspapers, advertisements and magazines, Amiotte impresses his own sense of history onto the historic reality of his great-grandfather, Standing Bear. Standing Bear, also an accomplished artist, traveled in Europe with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show from 1889-1890. Amiotte’s hand-written messages on this collage personalize Standing Bear’s experiences in Paris while traveling as a participant in the Buffalo Bill Show.
