Label TextIn 1877 Thomas Moran traveled with his wife to Fort George Island, Florida. He had been hired by Scribner’s "Monthly Magazine" to illustrate an article about the Island, the small studies of trees and beaches as well as still lifes illustrating local flora, such as Cherokee Roses were a departure from his monumental landscapes of the American West. Moran signed and dated this work years after it was originally created. It’s interesting to note is that he dated it incorrectly, to 1876.
