Label TextDelicate embroidery of moosehair on black-dyed deerskin is a distinctive art form of the Wendat (Huron) of Lorette, Quebec. Pouches, moccasins and gloves were among the types of objects that the Huron embroidered with stylized floral motifs and geometric elements such as the arc-and-dot or sky dome motif which is thought to be a reference to the great dome of the sky. Originally the pouch would have had a shoulder strap. As well, a number of tin cones are missing and the remaining ones have lost much of their brightly red-dyed moosehair. The extension of hide around the edge acted as a support for these inch-long tufts of red-dyed hair.Exhibition History"Arrows of the Spirit: North American Indian Adornment from Prehistoric to Present," Mingei International, San Diego, California, August 27, 1999 - April 1, 2000.
