Label TextThis finely woven basket with approximately 25 stitches to the inch was made for the market. Thunderbirds holding symbolic stylized whaling harpoons appear on the lid and sides. The Nootka hunted whales, and their cosmology describes the thunderbird as a supernatural being who also engaged in whaling.
