Label TextCharlotte Morey’s work is a testament to the time-honored Iroquois traditions of weaving bands of black ash splint basketry. Sweet grass is well-known for its satisfying fragrance, but it also provides a textural contrast to the smooth surface of the natural, undyed black ash splint. Morey has used twisted sweet grass to create the handles and it is interwoven between the splints as well. One of the most appealing features of the basket is the imbrication of the black ash splint. Here imbrication is used to create a fancy twist on the surface of the basket. Imbrication is not a part of the structure of the basket as it is inserted only onto the surface.
