Label TextAn acclaimed folk artist of Jewish heritage, Malcah Zeldis creates works that are autobiographical and undeniably ethnic. In this painting, Zeldis depicts a family dinner, most likely prepared by her mother, who raises her hands in prayer over the meal. Zeldis spent her childhood in New York City and in this painting shares a memory of her upbringing that was influenced by her youth spent at a kibbutz in Israel.
