Label TextThis autobiographical painting features the young Malcah Zeldis seated on the front porch of her childhood home in Detroit while the adult members of her family listen to a radio broadcast of a Tigers game. The painting honors Hank Greenberg, a member of the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Zeldis' paintings are infused with a raw vitality through her use of vivid and provocative colors, oversized figures, and intense imagery. Her artwork expresses her feelings while remembering or experiencing some image or event, and often reflects social or political issues or her strong Jewish heritage. In this painting she pays homage to Greenberg for being a hero to American Jews, someone whose fame gave the Jewish community a greater sense of belonging in American society.
