Label TextDavid Zeldis, son of Malcah Zeldis, is a prominent folk painter who is also represented in this show. David Zeldis was born in Israel in 1952 and studied photography in New York City where he still lives and works, deliberately limiting his contact with the outside world. Zeldis works in graphite or colored pencil, and is known for his precise, exacting draftsmanship. The content of Zeldis’s drawings reflect his own interior thoughts and experiences often realized as surreal, apocalyptic landscapes, mysterious chambered interiors or totemic figures.
