Label TextJanet Munro began painting in 1969, inspired by the large Andrew Wyeth exhibition held in that year at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and by a long-standing admiration for the works of Grandma Moses. Although she is best known for her brightly colored and patterned landscapes of Upstate New York, Munro also worked in Maine. She executed this view of the Penobscot River just prior to achieving national acclaim as a contemporary folk artist. On View
