Label TextPurvis Young used his work to address social and racial issues faced by the African American community in the Overtown neighborhood in Miami. His work is vibrant and colorful, and has been described as appearing like finger-painting, fast, loose and spontaneous, allowing Young to embed his own emotions into his work. Young’s work is credited with influencing the artistic movement known as Urban Expressionism.
