Label TextApache women wove trays like this for winnowing grain or storing food. The design in the center of the basket might be an abstracted depiction of a squash blossom. Figural and animal motifs circle the squash blossom, and the rest of the basket is patterned with dyed devil’s claw. Basket making is a longstanding and celebrated tradition in Apache culture and baskets are used in almost every aspect of daily life.
