Label TextSanta Clara pottery ceramicists were renowned for their skills in making black ceramics. The elegant shape of the pot with its shiny black sheen and turned rim was especially characteristic of Santa Clara pottery. It is believed that black polished pottery arrived in New Mexico in 1598, giving blackware pottery an impressive 300 year history and presence in the southwest.
