Label TextThe mid-nineteenth century saw a rise in appliquéd quilts. Many were made as sampler or album quilts that combined many different motifs into a bordered whole, but more unified patterns were also popular, particularly those based on red or pink flowers and green vines and leaves. The flowers in this example are stuffed to create higher relief, and the white space is heavily quilted in winding feather motifs.
