Label TextHenry Walton's earliest works, dating from about 1820, were lithographs and mezzotints of landscapes and town views from the Finger Lakes region of central New York State. By 1836, Walton was living in Ithaca and sought employment there as a portrait painter. By 1842, Walton's work had become more accomplished: he paid scrupulous attention to the sitter's faces, hands and hair with exacting detail and precision. Harriet Elizabeth Boynton's parents, Henry and Emeline, were residents of Groton, Tompkins County, New York, from 1840 through 1870. Henry was born in Vermont and worked as a farmer and carpenter.
