Label TextThese moccasins are classic examples of the extremely fine porcupine quillwork that Haudenosaunee women made in the early 19th century. A hallmark of this tradition is the vividly dyed quillwork that covers much of the moccasins’ surface in a combination of geometric and gentle curvilinear designs. Women often bordered the cuffs with a richly colored silk ribbon to complement the dyed quillwork.
