Label TextThis jar is a remarkable vessel, in both form and decoration. It was made at Santa Ana Pueblo, or possible at Zia, at the end of the 18th century or early in the 19th. The shape and the black and red painting on this jar are unique. The many small elements in the design would be unusual for Santa Ana and are more like Zia, although the vessel is tempered with fine sand, instead of the crushed basalt seen in most Zia pottery. The feather motifs and flagged triangles are rather similar to designs on early Ashiwi Polychrome made at Zuni.
