Label TextQuilts made with a single shape of patch repeated across the entire top are called “charm quilts,” and frequently reflected a desire to use a different fabric for every piece. The maker of this quilt appears to have achieved this goal. While there appears to be little patterning as to color, in general she placed darker triangles pointing in one direction and lighter triangles in the other. She also chose not to quilt the piece, but instead to tie it: making a single stitch, knotting the thread around it, and cutting it so that it stands alone. This is a quicker but significantly less skillful or attractive means of finishing a quilt. On View
